ideal customer profile examples

Five ICPs, filled in field by field.

What all five have in common

Each one excludes far more of the market than it includes. Each names concrete job titles rather than abstract roles. Each has a trigger, which is what turns a fit into a reason to email this month. And each has disqualifiers — the field most people skip, and the one that stops you burning credits on companies that were never going to buy.

ICP examples FAQ

What does a good ideal customer profile look like?

Narrow enough to exclude most of the market. A good ICP names 3-5 industries, one or two headcount bands, specific departments and seniorities, real job titles, the trigger that creates urgency, and explicit disqualifiers.

How specific should an ICP be?

Specific enough that you could build a target list from it without asking a follow-up question. If two people would build different lists from your ICP, it isn't finished.

Should an ICP include revenue or funding?

Only if it changes who you sell to. Headcount is usually a better proxy and far easier to filter on. Funding stage matters mainly when your buyer's budget is tied to a raise.

How often should I revisit my ICP?

After every 100-200 sends, or whenever a segment starts replying disproportionately. Your ICP should be edited by evidence, not rewritten on instinct.

Can I have an ICP without any customers yet?

Yes — it's a hypothesis at that point, and that's fine. Write the narrowest version you believe, send to it, and let the replies correct you.
