How to fill in each field

An ICP is only useful if it narrows something. Every field below should exclude companies, not describe the whole market.

Industries — 3 to 5, no more

Pick industries where your value proposition needs no translation. If you have to explain why the problem applies, it's a different ICP.

Company size, in bands

Headcount is a proxy for budget, buying process and pain. Under 50 buys fast on a card; over 500 buys slowly through procurement. Don't span both.

Geography you can actually serve

Timezone, language, and privacy law all live here. GDPR changes how you can prospect in the EU, so decide before you build a list.

Departments and seniority

The person who feels the pain and the person who signs are often different. Name both, and stay above the junior line — interns don't buy.

Job titles you'll actually email

Titles are the searchable layer. Write 5 to 8 real ones as they appear on LinkedIn, not the abstract role you wish existed.

Disqualifiers

The most valuable half of an ICP. Write down what makes a company a bad fit so your list building stops burning credits on them.

Or skip the blank page

Paste your website URL into fkngrow and the AI reads what you sell, writes the positioning down, then proposes the same ICP fields — industries, headcount bands, departments, seniorities and concrete titles — with a rationale you can argue with. Edit it, then hunt verified contacts that match. The free plan covers 25 prospects and 25 emails a month.

ICP template FAQ

What is an ideal customer profile?

An ideal customer profile (ICP) describes the type of company most likely to buy and stay: industry, headcount, geography, and the roles inside it who make the decision. It describes accounts, not individuals.

What should an ICP template include?

At minimum: industries, company size bands, locations, the departments and seniorities you sell to, the concrete job titles you email, the trigger that makes them buy now, and the reasons you disqualify a company.

What's the difference between an ICP and a buyer persona?

An ICP is the company you want to sell to. A buyer persona is the human inside it — their goals, objections and language. You need the ICP to build a target list and the persona to write the message.

How many ICPs should I have?

One, until it's provably working. Multiple ICPs split your outreach volume, so you learn slower from each. Start narrow, then add a second segment once the first produces replies.

Can I generate an ICP automatically?

Yes — fkngrow reads your website, writes down what you sell and to whom, then proposes a full ICP with industries, headcount bands, seniorities and titles that you can edit. It's free to try.
